Derwent Valley Light Railway

Friday 20th July 2018

Tonight will be the DVLR’s Annual Running Evening.

In use should be D2245 and 03079

In addition Ruston Industrials 'British Sugar 165' and 'Rowntree No 3' will be in use.

There may be demonstrations of the Wickhams Trolley and the original DVLR pump trolley if ongoing DVLR layout changes permit by that time.

The event starts at 17.30.

Food and drink available.

Barrow Hill

Two different events on the same evening - the first for haulage behind 08879 only and the second for haulage behind 08879 plus a track bash. Book for both events via the BLS website link below.

The Springwell Wheelbarrow.

PLEG in association with the Branch Line Society is delighted to announce the opportunity to enjoy haulage behind Class 08 08879 on Friday 20th July 2018 at Barrow Hill.

Starting at 18.00, the shunter will undertake three return trips along the Springwell branch. The expected assisting loco will be Class 02 02003

The fare will be £10 adult, £5 child (BLS and PLEG members only).

In a break from the usual format, due to a later "rare track" trip (see "The East Midlands Wheelbarrow" fixture) this event will be on a pre-paid basis and will be using brake vans as rolling stock. Friday 20 July is the day before A V Dawson BLS / PLEG event in Middlesbrough with 08774 (places remain available, see below), so this fits conveniently for those heading North the previous evening.

Branch Line Society in association with PLEG is delighted to announce the opportunity to enjoy haulage behind Class 08 08879 on Friday 20th July 2018 at Barrow Hill.

Starting at 18.30, the shunter will cover four items of unusual track. Firstly, the charter will visit both sidings on the brickyard side of the site before being the first passenger working over the two new, fully relaid sidings adjacent to the Coal Stage. These new sidings have been commissioned in readiness for the outstabling and servicing of EMT rolling stock during the Derby blockade. The sidings are expected to be used by EMT for the first time on Saturday 21st July. The expected assisting loco will be Class 02 02003

The fare will be £20 adult, £10 child (BLS and PLEG members only).

Brake vans will be used as rolling stock. Friday 20 July is the day before A V Dawson BLS / PLEG event in Middlesbrough with 08774 (places remain available), so this fits conveniently for those heading North the previous evening.

BLS/PLEG Dawsons Bash Railway

Update: There are places still available on Trips 1, 3 and 5 but Trips 2 and 4 are full.

BLS/PLEG have organised another bash around A. V. Dawsons, Middlesbrough using 08774 and 01567 with the red BLS van 'Molly' as stock.

There will be five trips over the course of the day and each trip will cost £55.

PLEG members pay the same as BLS members and you don't need to enter your membership number just leave the box blank.

Strathspey Railway

Saturday 21st July and Sunday 22nd July 2018

A mixed traction event will take place this weekend.

08490 27050 31327 will be out on passenger trains. The DMU will also be out.

828 and 46464 will be steaming.

08490 will start the event by taking part of the catering set to Boat of Garten at 09.30. This set will include a 64 seat TSO for anyone wishing to travel behind it. This set will make a return trip from Boat of Garten at 18.10.

Departures from Aviemore will be hourly, alternating between steam and diesel. All services will have an engine change at Boat in the up direction until the final two returns from Boat which will be double headed. Finally the DMU set will make a return trip from Aviemore at 17.20, travelling along the extension to Dulnain Bridge.

There will be other attractions at Boat of Garten during the weekend, including signal box and locomotive cab visits.

Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway

This year’s three day summer festival of heritage diesel traction is a very special one as we will be running along our newly re-opened extension into the magnificently rebuilt Broadway station for the first time. Now providing a total journey from Cheltenham Racecourse to Broadway of 14 miles.

At Toddington, you will be able to visit our diesel maintenance shed and see up close 1963-built 47105 and 1960 built 24081 under overhaul and our single car diesel multiple unit built in 1957 W55003 and formerly used on the Honeybourne line currently being refurbished.

Trains will not stop at Hayles Abbey Halt during this event.

All Booking Offices and Stations will open 30 minutes before the first train leaves Toddington.

Car parking is FREE at both Toddington and Cheltenham Racecourse stations (please note that there will be no parking at Broadway or Winchcombe stations). The biggest car park is at Cheltenham Racecourse station where there are stacks of parking spaces. Car Parks will open 45 minutes before the first train leaves Toddington.

Free station to station bus link: A free connecting bus will make several trips direct from Cheltenham Spa National Rail station to Cheltenham Racecourse station in the morning and late afternoon. This year available on all 3 days, details can be found here

We can offer both under cover pitches (inside the diesel shed which will be functioning as an exhibition hall) and, at a lower rate, outdoors in the car park which provides a link between the shed and the station. This year we have maintained our charges for sales stands in order to encourage a greater variety of stands on show (prices were reduced last year). Spa Valley Railway

Friday 3rd August until Sunday 5th August 2018

Industrial Drewry shunter 2591 'Southerham' should also be running along with carts Class 207 DEMU 1317 and Class 421 3CIG 1497 'Freshwater'.

Class 55 55019 'Royal Highland Fusilier' will be visiting throughout August 2018 courtesy of the Deltic Preservation Society and will be starring in this Gala.

Clayton D8568 and D7612 will also be visiting for the gala.

DEMU 1317 and EMU 1497 will also be out.

An intensive service will be operating throughout the gala with the usual real ale and cider bars being available at various locations.

An intensive train service will apply all three days, the first trains on the Friday, Saturday & Sunday will be connecting with the earlier Southern services arriving at Eridge. We are intending to operate a standard two train hourly service with an intermixed shuttle service operating fast trains between Tunbridge Wells West Platform 2 and Eridge Platform 3.

As with all our diesel events, an opportunity to drive a diesel locomotive will be on offer, for 2018 it will use one of our shunting or spare mainline locomotives in between trains at Tunbridge Wells West only.

Back by popular demand! These popular Brake Van services will run from Groombridge Station to the end of the Ashurst Spur and return using Class 10 D3489 'Colonel Tomline' subject to completion of engine repairs. These Brake Van rides will be a total distance of about 1/2 mile and are included in the price of a day rover ticket.

The day before the main event takes place will see the two resident Crompton's Class 33/0 33063 'R.J.Mitchell' and Slim-Jim Class 33/2 33201 taking part in a mileage day vice our previously advertised Purple timetable. They will run top and tail all day between Tunbridge Wells West & Eridge with 33063 and 33201 swapping ends as the day goes on, finishing in early evening to allow for continued preparation for the following day's Gala activities. The train will either be the 3CIG combined with DEMU or Set A (5 MK1). Further Details

Alongside the Crompton running day the 'Rare Track Excursion' will be making a welcome return to the calendar, this time visiting a lot of rarely used bits of track in one hit. Taking in areas of Tunbridge Wells West previously not usually accessed such as the East/West 2 siding (as far as something can go) and No.3 road. Both roads of the carriage siding at Groombridge will also be included along with the available space in the Groombridge Engineers Siding, the former Up Line from Birchden Junction. A quick pop along to Eridge will also be fitted in to visit Platform 3 and the stub of track beyond the normal stopping point in Platform 2 before returning to Tunbridge Wells West. If you wish to travel down the 'Ashurst Spur' then that really will be the last time! These sidings have been used under a License Agreement since 1997 and never owned by the Wealden Railway Company which owns & operates the Spa Valley Railway. The current License Agreement will be terminated in 2019 and the sidings will after this no longer be available for use.The traction for this train will be 2591 D3489 and 73140 . The stock will be limited to the Queen Mary Brake Van in the first instance. However if demand is there then our Class 101 Trailer Car will be added to the consist. Rare Track Train Details

Friday & Saturday Evening Fish & Chip Trains: At the Spa Valley we have been operating Fish and Chip Supper trains since the early 2000s and they now have an extremely popular reputation amongst the local population and also from afar, at our gala events they are a great way to spend the evening whilst enjoying haulage by heritage diesel traction. On Friday 3rd & Saturday 4th August at our 2018 gala we'll be running one of these popular services on our 19:00 service from Tunbridge Wells West to Eridge. What's on offer? Join the train from 18:45 at Tunbridge Wells West and be shown to your seats. At 19:00 the train will set off for Eridge and complete three return journeys with heritage diesel traction. Whilst on your journey you will enjoy a freshly prepared Fish and Chip supper followed by an ice cream dessert. You will return to Tunbridge Wells West for approximately 22:30 (or you can alight before if you wish during earlier arrivals). Book Fish & Chips

31601 will work four round trips during the day and 08605 will work a round trip departing at 18.15 from Wirksworth. Please allow 2½ hours for the round trip.

Heritage Shunters Trust

In use should be D2953 D2854 D2587 D2205/D2284/07001* PWM654 Bigga *=One of these locomotives TBA later.

Please note Bigga will be running in a shiny new coat of mid-Brunswick Green, and displaying her "Bigga" nameplates.

Brakevan rides, single rides, or all day riding tickets are available on each day for both Galas. An eclectic mix of shunters will be used for all of our shuttles on all of this year's above running days.

Come and see beautifully restored D2205, D2139 and 03113 all vying for attention.

Come and also see PWM650 and PWM654 together, the only place in the country where you will ever be able to see this.

Ride behind "Little Gems", Class 01, D2953 and Class 02, D2854, usually paired together on brakevan shuttles.

At the gazebo will be a revamped sales stand where tickets to ride can be purchased and you will be given a complimentary stock sheet.

If you want a relaxed, enjoyable day out, with convivial company, informative guides and members who are passionate about their collection and who are more than willing to share their passion, please visit us on at least one of the 2018 galas. Not only that but another big bonus is that every penny raised from these events goes towards the restoration and conservation of a totally unique collection of locomotives.
