Our future events, when confirmed, can be viewed on this page, and while this list may not be extensive, please rest assured that much is going on behind the scenes. It is a fact that the events that PLEG attempts to organise are at the harder end of the organisational spectrum. If they were easy to organise, other groups, or the railways themselves, would have already organised them in the past. A lot of what we attempt to organise meets with various stages of resistance in the process, but rest assured that we do our utmost to persevere, and only come to a dead end when, disappointedly, a railway basically says 'We are just not interested!' That is of course a shame for us, and for them, as we would never propose anything to a railway unless we believed the railway would make money from the event. At this moment in time we are currently working on, or involved in, proposals with a number of different sites. We don't know as yet which of these proposals will go through to a 'live' event, but you will find out about it on this website first. And don’t forget, PLEG still has a 100% record – everything we have ever advertised to work at one of our events has produced on the day! You can view our past events by clicking here.

Any potential events will be added to this page when they are ready, plus will also be shared on our Yahoo Group.

The Carrog Gronks

Sunday 1st April

In conjunction with the Llangollen Railway and Llangollen Diesel Group, PLEG is delighted to announce a special "long distance" outing on Sunday 1st April 2012 for Class 08 08195 (13265 / D3265) and ex ICI Mond Division Class 08 "lookalike" EEDK1901 0-6-0DE (1951).

The private charter train will leave Llangollen at 08:30 and travel the full length of line to Carrog using four MkI coaches. The locos cannot work in multiple so one engine will lead the uphill charge to Carrog, and one the return. The train is booked to arrive back at Llangollen by 11:00.

Hot drinks and breakfast baps will be available at Llangollen station from 08:00 - please note there will be no refreshment service on the train.

A souvenir ticket will be provided to commemorate the event – tickets are priced at £15 per person and the charter will operate subject to a minimum of forty participants. Note that your ticket will also be valid for use on the advertised steam service throughout the day.

There will be some interest to the track enthusiast as the charter will include use of both platforms at Carrog, the Up Loop at Deeside and the Up Loop at Llangollen Goods Junction.

On the train, a fund raising raffle will be held for the Llangollen Diesel Group with attractive prizes and a trade stand is hoped to be present. All revenue will be donated to the Llangollen Railway and a portion of that will be allocated to the fund raising work of the Llangollen Diesel Group.

To find out more about the work of Llangollen Diesel Group, including their Spring Diesel Day, to be held the day before the charter on Saturday 31st March 2012, visit their website.

To reserve your place please email kev.adlam@pleg.org.uk in the first instance as advance booking is essential - prepayment instructions will then be provided. Alternatively, telephone enquiries can be made between 8pm and 9pm Monday – Friday on 01270 662 396.

Whilst every effort will be made to provide the requested traction, both locos are subject to availability. The Llangollen Railway reserves the right to substitute one or both locos with a replacement if necessary.

The Rheidol Rod

Saturday 1st September

PLEG is delighted to announce a re-visit to the attractive 1ft 11¾in gauge Vale of Rheidol Railway on Saturday 1st September 2012, where our special private charter train will be hauled by 0-6-0 Diesel-Hydraulic Number 10, built in 1987 by the Brecon Mountain Railway, using Baguley Drewry parts. PLEG last visited the railway in May 2007. For details on this trip click here.

Only three carriages can be provided so the train will be strictly limited to 100 passengers.

Timings: The private charter train will leave Aberystwyth at 12:15 and travel the full length of line to Devil's Bridge, arriving at 13:20. After a leg stretch and photo opportunity, we shall depart at 14:15 before arriving back at Aberystwyth at 15:20. The charter has been timed to co-ordinate with Arriva Trains Wales Aberystwyth arrival at 11:20 and departure at 15:30 or 17:30, the later departure allowing time to perhaps visit the Cliff Railway.

Route: There will be some interest to the track enthusiast as the charter is booked to use Aberffrwd loop, to pass the steam service. Capel Bangor loop has also been requested but availability will be dictated by train movements on the day. Finally, the non-preferred platform at Aberystwyth will be used in a shunt move, but a run to the depot will not be available.

Tickets: A souvenir ticket will be provided to commemorate the event – tickets are priced at £15 per person and the charter will operate subject to a minimum of forty five participants. In the event that minimum numbers are not met and the charter is cancelled any monies paid over will be refunded in full. Passengers will also have the opportunity to "Gift Aid" their fare and all revenue collected will be donated to the Vale of Rheidol Railway.

Bookings: To reserve your place please email kev.adlam@pleg.org.uk in the first instance as advance booking is essential - prepayment instructions will then be provided. Alternatively, telephone enquiries can be made between 8pm and 9pm Monday – Friday on 01270 662 396. When booking, please state if you intend on travelling by service train, as low cost ATW group travel arrangements may be available from Crewe, Birmingham or Shrewsbury. Please indicate your preferred group travel start point.
